Are You Ready for Change?

Not aligning with change is resisting our true nature and life itself.

It’s been almost 5 months since I’ve sent a newsletter, which marks the longest span of time that I've gone without sending my writing since starting this newsletter 3 years ago.

I thought I would feel empty or guilty without sending it because it's been such a staple in my life for so long but the truth is, I didn’t.

Life showed me different ways that my passions and gifts wanted to be utilized and where my energy was meant to go for this season.

Because that’s the thing about humans……we are meant to change.

Just like nature, we too have our own seasons. When one thing is blossoming, something else might be (is definitely) dying.

Not aligning with change is resisting our true nature and life itself.

It reminds me of my my favorite Octavia Butler quote from the book ‘Parable of the Sower’:

“All that you touch, You Change. All that you Change, Changes You. The only lasting truth is Change. God is Change.”

Allowing myself to continue to heal, learn, evolve, to explore the different worlds within and around me, has quite literally shifted my reality and the ways in which I am showing up in my career, my relationships and the world.

In the last few months this has looked like:

  • Coming out as bisexual to a live audience (including my parents and close friends) as part of my final performance for my 2 year acting school (if you’re interested in seeing the performance you can message me directly)

  • Starting to date for the first time as a queer person

  • Getting my clinical certification in EFT

  • Leading multiple Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) workshops to therapists and teachers at my high school dealing with student deaths by suicide

  • Co-leading a multiple day retreat for an amazing abortion rights / reproductive justice organization with someone in my community who I deeply love and respect

  • Supporting digital platforms with bringing EFT to folks of color

  • Re-designing my personal space

  • Having consistent and challenging conversations about the current genocide in Gaza (as someone who used to be conflict avoidant, this feels deeply important to note as a tangible parallel between how we show up for ourselves in connection to how we show up for the world around us)

I’m not saying change is easy - believe me I understand (I have a Taurus moon so holding on for dear life is an Olympic sport at this point) - but what I am saying is that it is essential not just for our own sacred evolution but for the (right) evolution of our relationships, community and the impact that we can make on the world around us.

This is something I think about often and discuss in depth with those in my close circle and it’s something that me and my brilliant friend, artist, poet and changemaker, Jezz Chung, will be discussing next Thursday, May 2.

Join us at 7pm (doors at 6:30pm) at Reparations Club where we’ll be discussing self-healing, transformation, the power of friendships and community and decolonization through the lens of their recently published book, This Way to Change.
